NOTICE UNDER AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT AND SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973
Governors State University does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities, including in admission or access to or treatment or employment, as required by federal and state law (including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and regulations thereunder).
Effective Communication: Governors State University will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in Governors State University programs, services, and activities, including reasonable accommodations for students and employees with disabilities.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures: Governors State University will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed on Governors State University’s campus, even in areas where pets are generally prohibited.
Governors State University will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.

Any student who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, modification of policies or procedures, or other reasonable accommodation to participate in a program, service, or activity of Governors State University, should contact ASSD. Students are required to register with and, if requested, provide documentation to ASSD in order to receive appropriate reasonable accommodations for any handicap or disability. Additional information regarding ASSD, available services, and registration can be located on the University’s ASSD webpage.
Students may direct complaints that a program, service, or activity of Governors State University is not accessible to persons with disabilities to ASSD or submit a complaint through the Student Complaint and Grievance Process.
