Division of Arts and Letters

The Division of Arts and Letters at Governors State University prepares students to think critically, communicate effectively, create meaningfully, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Through programs in the arts, humanities, media, literature, history, social sciences, and public affairs, the division encourages students to explore human experience, culture, creativity, and civic engagement through interdisciplinary learning and applied inquiry.

Faculty within the division are active scholars, artists, researchers, educators, and media professionals who support students through mentorship, creative practice, research opportunities, and community engagement. Students are encouraged to connect academic study with real-world experiences while developing adaptable skills that support careers across education, public service, communications, creative industries, nonprofit leadership, law, government, and graduate study.

The Division of Arts and Letters is also home to programs and initiatives that extend learning beyond the classroom through storytelling, public scholarship, media production, exhibitions, performance, civic dialogue, and cultural engagement.
