Biography
FACULTY PROFILE Lamise N. Shawahin, PhD is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Governors State University, where she co-coordinates the Master’s in Psychology program. A counseling psychologist by training, her scholarship focuses on mental health in Arab and Muslim communities, race-based stress, and the intersections of culture, identity, and well-being. Dr. Shawahin has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to seminal texts on multicultural counseling, and presented nationally and internationally on issues of social justice, health disparities, and advocacy. She served as President of the American Arab and Middle Eastern North African Psychological Association and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Muslim Mental Health. In addition to her work in the U.S., she occasionally teaches at the Arab American University in Palestine during the summer, advancing cross-cultural education and mentorship.
