K.G. Sanjaya Ranmohotti, Ph.D.

FACULTY PROFILE "I am an Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the College of Arts and Sciences Division of Science, Mathematics, and Technology, and I joined GSU in Fall 2014. My research interests lie in developing a general route for synthesis of noble metal aerogels through self-supported assembly of preformed metal hollow particles and study their physiochemical properties as a function of synthetic parameters. My research interests also includes study of structure property correlation of solid-state materials.

Before joining GSU, in order to get postdoctoral experience, I joined research groups at Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Michigan, and University of New Orleans after completing my Ph.D.at Clemson University and prior to that, I attended University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka where I received my undergraduate degree. What I find most awarding about teaching at GSU is being part of and contributing to the great transformation. Experiencing the rewards and the small successes of teaching is what drives me to re-evaluate and work on becoming a better teacher. The reason I love to teach lies in the students. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than helping a student, especially one who struggles, to understand a concept or a problem. At the same time, it is my goal as a teacher to share my knowledge and expertise with students so that they can use them on the course of their lives. I take great satisfaction in having the opportunity to be involved in the development of students as professionals for the benefit of the society.

At GSU, I am serving on several committees that are on the college as well as on the university level. I believe that service is essential for the development of academics since it provides the opportunity to give back to the university and improve the quality of education."   - K.G.
